Land Reclamation
The pattern of existing land uses, potential for incorporating new developments and technical issues (pertaining to river hydraulics and embankment design) were prime considerations in determining the alignment of the proposed 275 m waterway. Drawing describes the alignment and the extent of the reclamation. It is proposed that a total of 162.799 ha of land be reclaimed.
It is proposed that the soil from the riverbed will be used for filling. The soil being sandy will considerably ease the process of filling and compaction. The consequence of lowering of the riverbed on river hydraulics and bridge foundations has been taken into consideration in the previous section. Option of utilization of fly ash is also explored.
Embankments
Various technological options were explored in the detailed feasibility studies and its financial viability for selecting the right type of embankment. The studies revealed that Reinforced Earth Panel Technology is most effective from various angles and the same be used for constructing the embankments.
